The Holy Grail of anti-ageing in skincare is in fact still retional! Without a doubt, this vitamin A ingredient will keep your skin looking younger for longer, making it an absolute must in your daily skincare regime. With its ability to exfoliate your skin and promote an increase in collagen production, it is essential for anyone in their late 20s and over who wants to combat fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin.
Vitamin A is the name of a group of fat-soluble retinoids that include retional, retinal, and retinyl esters. This is the number 1 vitamin required in your skincare, followed by vitamin C.
If you want your skin to slow down ageing, and your skin to look younger than your years, then it is critical to use vitamin A in your skincare regime!
Skin renewal and collagen production start to decline from the age 25yrs and onwards, hence fine lines and wrinkles start showing at this time.
It is said, that collagen levels start to decrease one-percent per year from the age of 20, so starting to add this hero ingredient into your daily regime will hold you in good stead for combating any signs of ageing that begin to appear. In your 20s retinol is great for defending your skin against ageing. In your 30s it will continue to aid in preventing further damage and from 40plus onwards, it will stimulate cell turnover and collagen production and target other age-related concerns.
Apply at Night
When dealing with such an active ingredient as this, it is best applied at night time. This allows it to work to its best abilities, at a time, when your skin is most permeable. A slow and steady approach is best, as it is a very aggressive form of anti-ageing and if used at too high a percentage, it will aggravate your skin severely.
Start by using the product twice a week then building up slowly to every night to avoid sore red skin.
Keep your product out of the sun as vitamin A is sun sensitive. The sun will degrade the product. The product should be in an opaque, air tight container.
You don’t need to apply a lot to make a big difference, so lightly goes it.
Always wear a sunscreen when using vitamin A, as it is also sun sensitive on your skin and your skin will burn.
My favourite vitamin A product which I use every night before applying my serum, eye cream, night moisturiser and neck cream is Arbonne Anti-Ageing Night Pads. This way you get the perfect amount of vitamin A every time. They are easy to use, no mess and your simply wipe one pad soaked in the vitamin A over your entire face, neck and chest and hands if you wish to rid yourself of those horrid dark spots that we get as we age. But don’t forget to put sunblock on your hands as well afterwards.
